The body is incredibly skilled at detoxifying and excreting unwanted and potentially harmful substances from the system. This process works very efficiently and does an excellent job. However, our environment has changed quite a bit and we are more and more exposed to exogenous and endogenous toxins that can have a negative effect on our health.

When we talk about detoxification, it is about improving and optimizing the function of your body’s own detoxification systems. This is done by decreasing the amount of toxins we put into our body while at the same time supporting our body’s detoxification and elimination systems with the nutrients it needs.

By following a few simple steps you can support your body’s detoxification making sure your body is clean and healthy.

Reduce the amount of toxins you ingest as a first measure. That means, avoid processed foods that can be fortified with chemicals, reduce the amount of stimulants such as alcohol, coffee and cigarettes that can be hard for your liver to process - your most important detoxification organ! Also, have as much fresh air as possible - avoid polluted streets, opt for quiet roads and parks whenever possible.

There are several things you can do in your everyday life to prevent collecting toxins that might make you sick. Simple actions like drinking warm lemon water first thing in the morning and eating as many liver-supporting foods as possible can make a big difference. Brassica vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, kale, cabbage, mustard greens, and brussels sprouts, as well as spices like turmeric and cinnamon, leafy greens like spinach, collard greens, swiss chard, watercress, and green, and dandelion root tea, are all good for the liver. Other ways to keep your toxins at bay and promote your body's natural detoxification include exercising daily or as much as you can and going to the sauna once a week.

Genetically and biochemically, everyone of us is distinct.Some of us are better than others in getting rid of poisons and trash.Because poisoning is a gradual build-up, it might take years for a person to exhibit symptoms.Fasting and other detoxification aids, as well as the development of good habits, are essential for long-term health.
